inexperience as a lens

My lack of traveling is an important lens because I begin reading books set in different places with no knowledge of these places. The biggest city I have ever been to is Baltimore, and the South is my main point of reference for every other place on the map. When a book is set in Ireland or even California, I am completely reliant on the author to inform me about that place. For example, over Christmas break I read a Nora Roberts trilogy for fun and it was set in Ireland. It was great to learn what kind of weather and landscape exists in Ireland through the author’s description of the setting and background. I would say that this is a hindrance because I have no point of reference for most novels not set in the South but I actually think that in some ways it benefits me. While reading books set in different places, I pay particularly close attention to the details about the area because it is the only catalyst I have had so far for travel.
