I also enjoy reading about strong female characters. I read Little Women over a cummer and just loved it. I do not consider myself a feminist either, but I do feel frutrated when I read about the females you described as trying to win affection. I think it is just that we like strong female characters to look up to instead of weak ones to look down upon.
