I think that many of us share the same feelings of anger when reading Anne Frank's Diary. It is interesting that you grew up in a rural community but were still able to experience the amazing diversity that you did. I also grew up in a rural setting but unlike you respond to uniqueness and difference in books with shock. Since I am not used to alot of differences I tend to read literature that I can relate with the characters more. It is great that you can enjoy reading literature about differences in others since you have experienced so much of it growing up.
