I can really relate to how you feel about only reading books you are familiar with. When I was younger I only read because my parents made me or because I had to for school. Even ones that I actually enjoyed like Judy Blume books I read because my mother said I had to do summer reading. So it's kind of hard to believe that I was an English major, but after being forced to read so many different kinds of books for four years, now I try to find different ones. I think the more we read that is out of our comfort zone, the more we will want to.
