Lisa, I find it interesting that you feel hindered in a way as an adult reader by avidly reading "series" books as opposed to indulging in a wider scope of young adult books as a child. I must admit I never really got into Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley the way that my sister or you did, but I do remember reading every single one of Christopher Pike's and R.L. Stine's books. In fact, like you, I rarely chose to read books outside of this "scary" category and even as I got older, would choose Stephen King over any type of classic when at the book store. Now I have quite a wider range of genres I enjoy, but I still remember the passion I had for those scary series as a child, staying up into the wee hours with a flashlight simply because I just had to know what was going to happen. I guess I feel these books ignited a passion for reading in me that has translated into a much wider scope as an adult. The series books were my hook into the reading world; I wonder if maybe they were yours as well.
